July 12th’s Pet’s of the Week

Our tiny little Chihuahua Jenn was adopted July 5th. Mona Lisa our little social butterfly is presently at our Eastside shelter and waiting to meet her forever family…if she is not in her kennel you can be sure she is out with one of our volunteers as she is quite the popular girl.

Blossom (ID# A1161093) is a 1 year & 1 month old, female tricolor Australian Cattle Dog mix. She weighs 41 pounds. Blossom can be a shy girl when meeting new people but in just a few moments she will be your very affectionate new devoted companion. Ask to meet Blossom in one of our play yards. Judging an animal in its kennel never is the true picture of their personality. Blossom enjoys taking a walk and is pretty good after her initial excitement getting out. We think she should be easy to house train after she learns her new homes routine. She is one of our potty brigade dogs so we make sure she gets out early each morning and late in the afternoon as she will not use her kennel. As you will see in Blossom’s picture she loves to play.  She is an athletic and agile girl. She enjoys tossing toys up into the air. She especially enjoys chasing Frisbees. She is quite good at catching them. With a bit of regular practice she might be a great companion to teach Frisbee Freestyle for competition. Blossom also is one of our play group greeters. Her doggie social skills are very nice. She can greet and play on the softer side. If a dog is a bit more energetic she may start herding. She does not herd using her mouth (the typical way to herd) but uses running and her body by “cutting” off one of the dogs from the group to play just with her. She is eager to please and very smart already knowing the cue for sit. She should be a star pupil when you attend the free training classes that accompany your adoption. Several of our volunteers attended the 4th of July parade in Madrid, New Mexico. Blossom was a bit timid of the large fire truck and the gentleman playing saxophone but she was a very good girl. She was good during the car ride up there too. She and her best bud from AWD Hunter (previously featured on KKOB) walked side by side hoping to find their new family/parents. Our beloved girl will shower you with kisses each day. What a way to start and end your day? You can meet this talented sweet dog at our Eastside shelter.  If you would like to check out Frisbee Freestyle you can view the Purina Incredible Dog Challenge on YouTube.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h99Xs_ZahB8

James (ID# A 1689845) is an 8 year young, male black Labrador Retriever & Chow Chow mix. He weighs 74.8 pounds. You may remember this boy and his brother Jerry were featured back in February. Originally they had been left at our shelter when their owners died and their son did not want the responsibility taking care of dogs. After being featured on KKOB they were adopted together but the woman lived in an RV and two large dogs in an RV was not working for her. Jerry was adopted this last weekend. James is such a sweet loving dog… we call him “Sweet Baby James”. Yes, some of us sing the James Taylor song to him when in his company, he loves it.  James just wants to be your shadow and devoted companion. He is one of our potty brigade dogs so house training should be easy with a little patience so he can learn the routine. He is easy on leash and enjoys taking walks. He especially enjoys petting and affection and will give you a sweet kiss in return. He is polite and knows the cue for sit. He is always calm quiet and well behaved just laying in his bed waiting for his turn to take a walk and receive some well deserved love and attention. When using our descriptive tidbit cards for James, other than “sweet and loving”, “easy going couch potato” would be a fairly accurate description of James. No back yard dog here just your very best friend.  James is hoping to be as fortunate as his brother Jerry and find a caring person to share their home and heart with him. We are hoping he will find his true forever person soon. Gentle sweet James is located at our Eastside shelter.

“Terrie Q. Sayre & Travelin’ Jack’s Pet Friends II”

Terrie mentioned last week that the deadline for the 2014 edition of Terrie Q Sayre & Travelin’ Jack Pet Friends II book is soliciting entries now until August 1, 2014. The book is a benefit project for animal adoption charities and to highlight the joy of pets. Last year’s book project supported two special groups that encourage pet adoptions in the greater Albuquerque Area; Lucky Paws and Albuquerque Kennel Kompadres the charity arm of Albuquerque Animal Welfare. Several hundred dollars were donated to these organizations so “thank you” to all that sent in the beautiful pictures of their beloved pets as well as purchasing the book. I have last year’s book on my coffee table and it is frequently perused by those that visit my home. Please consider sending in a photo and purchasing the book. I promise it will brighten your day and the money raised will benefit so many of our homeless pets. For more information go to http://terrieqpets.com/ and contact LDP Press/Rio Grande Books 505/344-9382 or e-mail LPD [email protected].
