Zuni one of our featured dogs from last week was adopted Saturday by a lovely young couple. Our second featured dog Chelsea has just blossomed in our doggie play groups this week. She has not found her forever person yet but is hoping to find them while she is now residing at Lucky Paws in Coronado Center.
Last weekend we were talking about a few of our older dogs that were just left at our shelter or not reclaimed because they were “too old”. Sweet Rafe that was left at our shelter when his owner said “he should just be euthanized he is too old” went home Thursday, February 20th with a young girl and her mom. They were looking for a sweet older dog for a companion and now Rafe is residing in Corrales. Buster, another 10 year old was adopted from the PetSmart National Adoption Weekend event and little 7 year old Cisco went to the event and another rescue fell in love with him so took him to try and help him his forever home. Our volunteers and staff went home with happy hearts for these old guys.
One of our nicest dogs Zeus (a black boxer mix) that seemed to suffer from black dog syndrome went home with two very lucky young men Thursday. Zeus was one of my personal favorites and he just was not noticed because he was so calm, quiet and well behaved in his kennel. One of our faithful volunteers made introductions and Zeus shined. She found a nice bed for them to help make Zeus feel at home in his new digs. As soon as they put the bed down easy going Zeus just hopped onto it and relaxed. She took a picture so Zeus’s fan club could rejoice in his good fortune and then she waved good bye as Zeus rode off with his two new best friends in their Subaru…..now doesn’t that sound like a great commercial? We have since received a picture of Zeus and his fellow canine companion hogging the couch. Love these happy endings!
This weekend we have a petite energetic shy girl and an outgoing playful affectionate beauty with lots of puppy energy.
Adelle (ID# A 1687732) is a 6 month old, female, black & white Labrador Retriever mix. She weighs 44 pounds. She came to our shelter when she was lost from her home. She is a typical energetic puppy. Adelle could use some basic leash training but already knows the cue for sit well. She is eager to please, loves people and is a very affectionate dog. Attending our training sessions that come with your adoption will give you ways to focus her puppy energy into learning skills. She is a friendly outgoing and playful pup. Adelle has participated in our doggie play groups. Even from her first time meeting new dogs she immediately began playing. Although only a youngster she displayed excellent doggie social skills and is now one of our play group greeters. As with most puppies she might be a bit to playful and rowdy for an older or very shy timid dog. Our volunteer photographer captured Adelle’s alert curious nature in her lovely picture. She would love to have a family to play with, go hiking with and then chill for some well deserved affection and companionship. If you have another dog in need of a playful companion we would love to help you with a meet and greet. This gorgeous girl is located at our Eastside shelter ready to meet her new family and find her forever home.
Sasha (ID# A 1671305) is a 2 year old, female, white & black Smooth Coated Chihuahua mix. She weighs 11 pounds. This sweet little girl was surrendered because they did not have time to work on house training so stuck her in the back yard. When she became lonely she started digging so of course they brought her to the shelter rather than spend some time and devote just a little effort to train her. Sasha can be a bit shy at first. She was a bit shy of the camera and flash but this young girl desperately wants to be with people. She has never soiled the inside of her kennel and has kept her bedding clean. Any pet coming to a new home needs some guidance and time to acclimate. She will need to learn her new family’s routine and the proper time and place to go but with a bit of patience and a watchful eye Sasha should be easily house trained. Sasha enjoys taking walks and is quite good on leash. She especially loves cuddling in a lap and is a Velcro girl when you start to stand and let her down. Sasha would love another chance to show a caring person just how smart and trainable she can be if the human is willing to give a tiny bit of effort. She will be a devoted companion and cuddle bug for some very lucky human.
