3RD TRIAL BEGINS IN NM BURGER KING SHOOTING

CARRIZOZO, N.M. (AP) More testimony is expected in the trial of a Ruidoso woman police says was involved with the shooting death of a woman outside a busy Alamogordo Burger King. The Alamogordo Daily News reports that Alexias Torres is in the 12th Judicial District Court in Carrizozo this week to face charges for the shooting death of Shavon Twitty in June 2011.

Torres is facing a number of charges, including first-degree murder and second-degree conspiracy to commit murder. Torres' defense attorney, Michael Keedy, says his client did not fire the weapon.

Torres is the third defendant to stand trial in 2011 homicide. A jury convicted Jonathan Montoya in August 2013 of murder, conspiracy and tampering with evidence. Melissa Mathis pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in May 2013 and was later sentenced to 16 years in prison.
