SANTA FE COUNTY NOMINATES JENKINS FOR APPOINTMENT

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) A retired information manager for a pharmaceutical company now has the backing from two New Mexico counties' commissions for appointment to fill a legislative vacancy. The Santa Fe County Commission has joined its Bernalillo County counterpart in nominating Democrat Ann Jenkins to fill a midterm vacancy created by the August death of Rep. Stephen Easley. Two additional candidates also have been nominated by two other counties that include portions of District 50.

The Valencia County Commission nominated former Albuquerque City Councilor Vickie Perea while the Torrance County Commission nominated LeRoy Candelaria. They're Republicans.

Gov. Susana Martinez will choose one of the nominees for the appointment, and she is expected to do so by Friday.

Martinez is a Republican. Easley was a Democrat.
