ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) The Torrance County Commission is keeping County Manager Joy Ansley on the job pending the outcome of criminal charges accusing her of bidigging on county construction projects. Ansley in interviews has denied wrongdoing but she has yet to formally make a plea to the 10 felony counts of fraud and conspiracy brought against her by state prosecutors.
According to television station KOB, the county Commission met in closed session Wednesday to discuss Ansley's employment. Commissioners later announced they would take no action. Commissioner Leroy Candelaria says that's the right thing to do unless she's convicted in court. For now, he says, the charges are only allegations. According to Candelaria, Ansley has been on vacation, but will return to work Monday.
Torrance County is southeast of Albuquerque.
