Lawmakers Working on Legislative Budget

EVEN THOUGH THE LEGISLATIVE SESSION DOESN’T BEGIN UNTIL NEXT TUESDAY, LAWMAKERS ARE ALREADY AT WORK IN SANTA FE. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS THAT THE HOUSE APPROPRIATIONS AND FINANCE COMMITTEE HAS SCHEDULED BUDGET HEARINGS FOR MORE THAN 50 STATE AGENCIES THIS WEEK.

ADOPTING A BUDGET WILL BE THE TOP PRIORITY FOR THE LEGISLATURE DURING THIS SHORT, 30-DAY SESSION. THE GOVERNOR AND THE LEGISLATIVE FINANCE COMMITTEE HAVE EACH SUBMITTED A SPENDING PROPOSAL, WITH THE MAIN DIFFERENCES CENTERING ON EARLY CHILDHOOD PROGRAMS, AND FREE COLLEGE TUITION.
