NM Reconsiders How it Registers Sex Offenders

THANKS TO SEX OFFENDER JEFFREY EPSTEIN, NEW MEXICO LAWMAKERS ARE NOW RE-THINKING THE STATE’S REGISTRATION POLICIES FOR SEX OFFENDERS. EPSTEIN TOOK HIS LIFE IN A NEW YORK JAIL CELL LAST YEAR, BUT HE OWNED A RANCH NEAR STANLEY HERE IN NEW MEXICO AND WAS ABLE TO KEEP FROM REGISTERING LOCALLY AS A SEX OFFENDER AFTER PLEADING GUILTY TO SEXUALLY ABUSING A WOMAN AT THAT RANCH A DECADE AGO.

NOW, STATE REP MATTHEW MCQUEEN OF GALISTEO HAS FILED A BILL TO AUTOMATICALLY REQUIRE PEOPLE WHO ARE REGISTERED AS SEX OFFENDERS IN ANOTHER STATE TO ALSO REGISTER IN NEW MEXICO IF THEY SPEND 20 CONSECUTIVE DAYS IN THE STATE. ADDITIONALLY, THAT COULD ALSO BE THE REQUIREMENT IF THEY STAY IN NEW MEXICO JUST 10 DAYS.
