Albuquerque Continues DOJ Training

IT’S BEEN FIVE YEARS SINCE THE DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE IDENTIFIED PROBLEMS IT SAW WITH THE ALBUQUERQUE POLICE DEPARTMENT, ESPECIALLY IN THE “USE-OF-FORCE” AREA. SINCE THEN, THE CITY HAS IMPLEMENTED NEW TRAINING FOR OFFICERS, TRAINING THAT STRESSES THE NEED TO DE-ESCALATE SITUATIONS BEFORE RESORTING TO THE USE-OF-FORCE. GILBERT GALLEGOS IS WITH APD. HE SAYS IT’S THE CORNERSTONE OF THE ENTIRE REFORM EFFORT.

GALLEGOS SAYS THE NEW USE-OF-FORCE POLICIES WERE CRAFTED FOLLOWING BOTH COMMUNITY AND OFFICER INPUT.
