Hundreds Arrested in Metro Surge

MORE THAN 700 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED DURING THE TWO MONTH LONG METRO SURGE OPERATION BY STATE POLICE IN ALBUQUERQUE. THOSE ARRESTS WERE THE RESULT OF MORE THAN 14-THOUSAND TRAFFIC STOPS. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS THAT THE INITIATIVE EARLIER THIS YEAR COST THE STATE ALMOST A MILLION DOLLARS.

FIFTY OFFICERS WERE STATIONED, MOSTLY IN SOUTHEAST ALBUQUERQUE, FROM MAY 10TH TO JUNE 5TH. AND 25 OFFICERS STAYED THROUGH EARLY JULY. MOST OF THE ARRESTS WERE FOR FELONY OR MISDEMEANOR WARRANTS. THE METRO SURGE FOLLOWED THE SHOOTING DEATH OF UNM BASEBALL PLAYER JACKSON WELLER OUTSIDE A NOB HILL NIGHTCLUB.
