MISSISSIPPI IS WORSE THAN NEW MEXICO WITH 25-POINT-4 OBESE YOUNG PEOPLE … WEST VIRGINIA IS NEXT WITH 20-POINT-9 PERCENT … AND KENTUCKY HAS A RATING OF 20-POINT-8 PERCENT.

AMONG YOUNG LATINOS IN NEW MEXICO, THE STUDY SAYS 19-POINT-8 PERCENT ARE GROSSLY OVERWEIGHT. AND OBESITY RATES FOR BLACKS AND LATINOS IS EVEN HIGHER. WHITES AND ASIANS HAVE THE LOWEST OBESITY RATES IN THE STATE. THE NEW MEXICO HEALTH DEPARTMENT SAYS THE TIME CHILDREN ARE IN KINDERGARTEN AND THIRD GRADE IS CRITICAL FOR PREVENTING EXCESSIVE WEIGHT GAIN.
