New Excellent Teacher Program Being Created

SOME CHANGES MADE FOR BONUSES HANDED OUT TO TOP-RATED TEACHERS IN NEW MEXICO. THE BONUSES ARE NOW DISCONTINUED AS GOVERNOR LUJAN GRISHAM IS NOW CREATING A NEW TEACHER EVALUATION SYSTEM FOR THE CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR. SHE’S DOING THAT WITH THE HELP OF A 46-MEMBER TASK FORCE AND SUGGESTIONS FROM COMMUNITY MEETINGS. STUDENT TEST SCORES WILL NO LONGER FIGURE INTO WHO GETS THE MONEY.

THIS NEWS COMES AS THE STATE RELEASES RESULTS OF JOB PERFORMANCE EVALUATIONS FOR THE JUST-ENDED SCHOOL YEAR LAST JUNE. PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT SPOKESMAN CONNOR BOYLE CONFIRMS THERE’S NO MONEY ALLOCATED FOR THE EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING AWARDS.

TEACHER PAY WAS RAISED BY SIX PERCENT OR MORE THIS YEAR BY STATE LAWMAKERS WITH ADDITIONAL PAY UNDER EXTENDED SCHOOL YEAR CALENDARS.
