Multiple Fires in Carson National Forest

CARSON NATIONAL FOREST OFFICIALS SAY THEY’RE INVESTIGATING 18 SMALL FIRES THAT WERE DISCOVERED BURNING LAST WEEK. ALL WERE HUMAN CAUSED…BUT IT’S UNCLEAR IF THEY WERE SET ON PURPOSE OR WERE THE RESULT OF UNATTENDED CAMPFIRES. AT LAST REPORT, THE FIRES HAD BURNED A LITTLE OVER 100 ACRES AND WERE 85 PERCENT CONTAINED. A FOREST SPOKESWOMAN SAYS THERE WAS NO LIGHTNING IN THE AREA WHEN THE FIRES WERE DISCOVERED ON OCTOBER FIRST. THE FIRES ARE BURNING IN THE EL RITO RANGER DISTRICT.
