Martinez Trial Date Set

A NOVEMBER 18TH TRIAL DATE HAS BEEN SET FOR STATE SENATOR RICHARD MARTINEZ. THE ESPANOLA DEMOCRAT, WHO CHAIRS THE SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE, HAS PLED NOT GUILTY TO A CHARGE OF AGGRAVATED DRUNK DRIVING, RELATED TO A TRAFFIC ACCIDENT IN ESPANOLA IN LATE JUNE. THE ABQ JOURNAL REPORTS THAT THE TRIAL IS EXPECTED TO LAST TWO DAYS. MARTINEZ HAS SAID HE WON’T RESIGN FROM THE LEGISLATURE, EVEN IF HE’S FOUND GUILTY. DISTRICT JUDGE FRANCIS MATHEW IS THE EIGHTH JUDGE TO BE APPOINTED TO THE CASE. SEVEN PREVIOUS JUDGES WERE EXCUSED BY EITHER THE DEFENSE OR PROSECUTORS…OR RECUSED THEMSELVES
