Man Goes on Rampage with Hammer

CARS ARE DAMAGED IN ALBUQUERQUE AND A MCDONALD’S RESTAURANT BROKEN INTO SUNDAY MORNING, WITH MCDONALD’S WORKERS TERRORIZED. A MAN IDENTIFIED AS ANTHONY HERNANDEZ WENT ON A RAMPAGE WITH A HAMMER, BREAKING WINDOWS TO VEHICLES AND A WINDOW AT THE MCDONALD’S AT CARLISLE AND MENAUL. WITNESSES SAID HERNANDEZ CHASED AND THREATENED THE EMPLOYEES, BUT THEY MANAGED TO HIDE IN THE KITCHEN OR BEHIND THE COUNTER. BY SUNDAY AFTERNOON, THE RESTAURANT’S WINDOWS WERE BOARDED UP AND HALF OF THE RESTAURANT WAS CLOSED TO THE PUBLIC.

THE WORKERS AND RESIDENTS IN THE AREA SAY THEY’RE NOT SURPRISED BY THE VIOLENCE. THEY SAY THEY GET A LOT OF CRIME, MOSTLY FROM PANHANDLERS AND DRUNKS.

HERNANDEZ WAS ARRESTED WHEN A POLICE OFFICER FOUND HIM WALKING NEARBY. HERNANDEZ ADMITTED TO USING METH. HE HAS A RECORD SHOWING HE WAS ARRESTED IN THE PAST FOR VEHICLE THEFT, BUT THE CASE WAS LATER DROPPED. HE’S NOW CHARGED WITH AGGRAVATED ASSAULT AND CRIMINAL DAMAGE TO PROPERTY.
