Pay Raises for APS

THEY WANT TO KEEP THEIR TEACHERS AT ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS, SO DISTRICT EMPLOYEES ARE GETTING AN 11 PERCENT INCREASE. THAT INCLUDES SUPERINTENDENT RAQUEL REEDY, WHOSE SALARY WILL GO FROM 248-THOUSAND DOLLARS A YEAR TO 276-THOUSAND A YEAR. REEDY’S CONTRACT SAYS SHE DESERVES THE SAME PAY HIKE AS OTHER APS WORKERS … BUT PAUL GESSING WITH THE RIO GRANDE FOUNDATION SAYS THE PAY RAISES ARE TOO HIGH.

GESSING SAYS THE HIGHEST RAISES ARE NOW BEING OFFERED AT APS TO THE HIGHEST PAID EMPLOYEES. BUT THE HIGHEST PAID APS WORKERS WILL GET A 6 PERCENT RAISE.

MOST OF THE FUNDING FOR THE RAISES IS FROM THE STATE, BUT TAXPAYERS ARE CHIPPING 45 MILLION DOLLARS. AND 6-AND-A-HALF MILLION IS FROM THE APS OPERATING BUDGET.
