Law Enforcement Injured; Suspect Killed in Las Cruces

TWO LAS CRUCES POLICE OFFICERS AND A DONA ANA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY ARE INJURED IN A SHOOTING IN LAS CRUCES MONDAY MORNING. THE LAS CRUCES SUN NEWS REPORTS THE SHOOTINGS TOOK PLACE AROUND 2:30 AM. ONE POLICE OFFICER WAS SHOT AND THE OTHER WAS SIMPLY INJURED WHEN A SUSPECT OPENED FIRE ON THEM. THE DONA ANA COUNTY SHERIFF’S DEPUTY ALSO SUFFERED INJURIES DURING THE SHOOTING. NONE OF THE INJURIES ARE SAID TO BE LIFE-THREATENING.

AFTER THE INCIDENT, THE OFFICERS AND DEPUTY SAY THE SUSPECT UNSUCCESSFULLY TRIED TO STEAL A DELIVERY TRUCK. THE OFFICERS DID FIRE BACK AT THE SUSPECT, KILLING HIM.

BUSINESSES NEAR WHERE THE SHOOTING OCCURRED … A TARGET STORE, HOME DEPOT, OFFICE MAX, STARBUCKS AND AN ALBERTSON’S, WILL BE CLOSED MOST OF TODAY (MON) WHILE THE INCIDENT IS INVESTIGATED.
