UNM Working on Opioid Vaccine

OPIOID ADDICTION IS A PROBLEM THROUGHOUT THE UNITED STATES. NOW, RESEARCHERS AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO SAY THEY’LL SOON HAVE A VACCINE THAT’LL PREVENT ADDICTION TO THE DRUG THAT’S BEEN WIDELY PRESCRIBED.

UNM RECEIVED A GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH TO WORK UP A VACCINE. THIS ONE WOULD BIND THE DRUG YOU’RE TAKING TO KEEP IT FROM REACHING YOUR BRAIN. ACCORDING THE CENTER FOR DISEASE CONTROL AND PREVENTION, THE UNITED STATES AVERAGES 130 DEATHS RELATED TO OPIOID ADDICTION EVERY DAY.

THE FEDERAL GOVERNOR IS EXPECTED TO EXPEDITE THE PROCESS OF GETTING THE VACCINE ON THE MARKET.
