Council to Vote on Plastics

SINGLE USE PLASTICS ARE AGAIN THE TOPIC OF DISCUSSION AT MONDAY’S ABQ CITY COUNCIL MEETING. THIS TIME, COUNCILORS ARE EXPECTED TO VOTE ON WHETHER TO GO WITH THE PROPOSAL THAT THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL REPORTS PROVIDES SOME SEVERE RESTRICTIONS FOR PLASTIC BAGS, STRAWS, AND OTHER PLASTIC ITEMS FROM STORES.

THE BILL’S SPONSORS ARE AWARE OF BUSINESS CONCERNS … NAMELY, THAT IT’S HARD TO FIND STRAWS THAT ARE NOT PLASTIC AND FOOD CONTAINERS THAT ARE NOT PLASTIC ARE A LOT MORE EXPENSIVE THAN THE PLASTIC VARIETY.

THE ORDINANCE THAT’S BEEN PROPOSED IS THE ALBUQUERQUE CLEAN & GREEN RETAIL ORDINANCE.
