Pearce Pleased with Abortion Decision

A MAJOR VICTORY FOR THE PRO-LIFE MOVEMENT IN NEW MEXICO. HOUSE BILL 51, WHICH WOULD HAVE DECRIMINALIZED ABORTION IN THE STATE, WAS DEFEATED ON A 18-24 VOTE. EIGHT DEMOCRATS JOINED REPUBLICANS IN VOTING AGAINST THE BILL. NEW MEXICO REPUBLICAN PARTY CHAIRMAN STEVE PEARCE SAYS THE PROVISION IN THE BILL COMPELLING DOCTORS TO PERFORM ABORTIONS WOULD HAVE BEEN VERY BAD FOR NEW MEXICO.

PEARCE SAYS CREDIT FOR THE DEFEAT OF THE BILL GOES TO THE MANY NEW MEXICANS WHO VOICED THEIR CONCERNS TO LAWMAKERS IN SANTA FE.
