Bill Would Eliminate State Tax on Medicare

NEW MEXICO SENIOR CITIZENS CURRENTLY PAY TAXES ON THEIR SOCIAL SECURITY EARNINGS. STATE REP GAIL ARMSTRONG WANTS TO CHANGE THAT. HOUSE BILL 477 WOULD LET SENIORS CLAIM UP TO 24-THOUSAND DOLLARS IN SOCIAL SECURITY EARNINGS WITHOUT HAVING TO PAY STATE TAXES ON THAT MONEY.

ARMSTRONG SAYS HER BILL HAS NOT YET BEEN SCHEDULED FOR A HEARING, BUT SHE SAYS, IT IS SIMPLY BECAUSE OF THE LARGE NUMBER OF BILLS THAT HAVE BEEN INTRODUCED. SHE SAYS A LOT OF BILLS ARE NOW BACKED UP AT THE LEGISLATURE.

SHE SAYS NEW MEXICO IS ONE OF 13 ONLY STATES THAT TAX SENIOR CITIZEN’S SOCIAL SECURITY.
