The Trouble With Lobo Football

IS FOOTBALL FEVER DEAD IN THE DUKE CITY? IT APPEARS THAT WAY BASED ON THE RECENT REVENUE NUMBERS FOR THE FOOTBALL PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF NEW MEXICO. THE ALBUQUERQUE JOURNAL SAYS THIS PAST SEASON SAW A SIGNIFICANT DECLINE IN REVENUE FOR THE PROGRAM, WITH OVERALL INCOME COMING IN JUST ABOUT 881-THOUSAND DOLLARS. THAT’S NEARLY 43 PERCENT LOWER THAN LAST YEAR’S REVENUE.

MICHAEL CARLYLE WITH OUR SPORTS STATION, 6-10 THE SPORTS ANIMAL, TELLS US MORE NEEDS TO BE DONE TO ATTRACT A CROWD. HE SAYS IT’S NO LONGER ENOUGH TO THINK YOU CAN ATTRACT THEM TO THE PIT JUST TO SEE A FOOTBALL GAME NOW. HE SAYS IT HAS TO BE MADE MORE OF AN EVENT.

CARLYLE SAYS THE DROP ISN’T A BIG SURPRISE AND THE SCHOOL WILL HAVE TO GET CREATIVE WHEN IT COMES TO SPENDING MONEY ON ATHLETICS.
