Senator Heinrich So-Sponsors Federal Worker Protections

ABOUT SIX-THOUSAND FEDERAL WORKERS IN NEW MEXICO WON’T BE GETTING THEIR PAYCHECKS FRIDAY. THAT MEANS THEY CANNOT PAY THEIR MORTGAGES, CAR LOANS OR EVEN STUDENT LOANS. BUT NOW, DEMOCRATIC SENATOR MARTIN HEINRICH IS WORKING ON A MEASURE TO PROTECT THOSE NEW MEXICO WORKERS.

HE’S CO-SPONSORING THE “FEDERAL EMPLOYEE CIVIL RELIEF ACT,” WHICH PROTECTS FEDERAL WORKERS IN THE STATE FROM FORECLOSURE, LOAN DEFAULTS AND EVICTIONS. WITH NO END IN SIGHT RIGHT NOW FOR THE PARTIAL GOVERNMENT SHUTDOWN, HEINRICH SAYS THE LEGISLATION IS NEEDED MORE THAN EVER.

THERE’S NO WORD AT THIS POINT WHEN THE ACT WOULD TAKE EFFECT.
