NM Killing Contests are Over

IT’S OFFICIAL. KILLING CONTESTS ARE NOW BANNED ON STATE TRUST LANDS. THE EXECUTIVE ORDER MANDATING THE BAN WAS SIGNED THURSDAY BY STATE LAND COMMISSIONER STEPHANIE GARCIA RICHARD. THE LAND OFFICE HAS SAID THAT IT HAS BEEN SEVERAL YEARS SINCE THERE HAD BEEN ANY KIND OF HUNT ON STATE TRUST LANDS THOUGH COYOTE CARCASSES HAD BEEN FOUND DISCARDED ON SOME TRUST LAND AREAS.

THE BAN ISSUED THURSDAY HAS SUPPORT FROM A VARIETY OF ANIMAL AND WILDLIFE ADVOCATE GROUPS. NEW MEXICO HAS AROUND NINE-MILLION ACRES OF STATE TRUST LANDS.
