Readying for Rail Yard Redevelopment

MOVES ARE BEING MADE TO REDEVELOP ALBUQUERQUE’S RAIL YARDS AFTER MAYOR TIM KELLER LAST YEAR RIPPED UP AN AGREEMENT THE CITY HAD WITH AN OUT-OF-STATE CONTRACTOR. THE CITY THEN TOOK BACK CONTROL OF THE RAIL YARD AND IS NOW PLANNING TO GIVE THE FACILITY A FACE LIFT THIS YEAR.

CARMELINA HART WITH THE CITY PLANNING DEPARTMENT SAYS THE CITY HAS A REMEDIATION PLAN IT’S SUBMITTING TO THE STATE. BUT IT’S NOT CLEAR IF THE DEVELOPER WILL BE FROM NEW MEXICO OR OUTSIDE THE STATE.

HART SAYS ONCE THE REMEDIATION IS COMPLETED, THE CITY WILL GET AN RFP (REQUEST FOR PROPOSAL). ALBUQUERQUE ALSO PLANS TO ASK THE LEGISLATURE FOR 15-MILLION DOLLARS TO HELP WITH REDEVELOPING THE RAIL YARDS.
