Grant Funds Bring “Urban Parks” to NM

BERNALILLO COUNTY IS GETTING A “GREAT URBAN PARKS CAMPAIGN” GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL RECREATION AND PARK ASSOCIATION. BERNALILLO COUNTY WAS ONE OF 10 ORGANIZATIONS NATIONWIDE TO GET THE GRANT, WHICH WILL BE USED TO DEVELOP “GREEN STORMWATER” INFRASTRUCTURE .

THE MONEY, 220-THOUSAND DOLLARS, WILL PAY TO INSTALL LOW IMPACT DESIGN LANDSCAPING ALONG THE NORTHERN END OF THE SECOND STREET TRAIL. IT GOES FROM THE SOUTH DIVERSION CHANNEL TO PROSPERITY AVENUE, A DISTANCE OF ABOUT 1 MILE. THE COUNTY SAYS IT IS AN EFFECTIVE WAY TO REDUCE THE EFFECTS WEATHER EVENTS.

COMMUNITY MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ON THE PROJECT WITH THE FIRST ONE ANTICIPATED FOR THIS COMING FEBRUARY.
