APS to Request a Tax Hike

IT’S YOUR CALL IF ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOLS GETS A TAX HIKE … ONE THAT RAISES THE TAX RATE 4-POINT-7 PERCENT. THE APS BOARD APPROVED THE TAX HIKE REQUEST FOR THE BALLOT AT THEIR WEDNESDAY NIGHT MEETING WITH A 6-TO-1 VOTE. THE ONLY BOARD MEMBER VOTING AGAINST IT WAS PEGGY MULLER-ARAGON.

THE DISTRICT’S PRIORITY LIST INCLUDES 11 NEW PROJECTS AND 22 PROJECTS THAT ARE ONGOING, ALONG WITH WORK ON MAINTENANCE, SECURITY AND TECHNOLOGY. THE ISSUE WILL BE DECIDED BY VOTERS IN FEBRUARY IN A SPECIAL ELECTION. IF VOTERS APPROVE THE INCREASE, THE CURRENT TAX RATE OF 10-DOLLARS-AND-45 CENTS WOULD JUMP TO 12-DOLLARS-AND-45 CENTS.
