Lockdown in Hobbs

A LOCKDOWN CONTINUES AT THE LEA COUNTY CORRECTIONAL FACILITY IN HOBBS. AUTHORITIES SAY A DISTURBANCE BEGAN AROUND 9:30 WEDNESDAY NIGHT WHEN SEVERAL INMATES IN FOUR HOUSING UNITS REFUSED TO FOLLOW ORDERS TO RETREAT TO THEIR CELLS. CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS USED TEAR GAS TO SECURE THE HOUSING UNITS.

NO INMATES OR OFFICERS WERE INJURED. CORRECTIONS DEPT CABINET SECRETARY DAVID JABLONSKI ISSUED A STATEMENT SAYING THOSE RESPONSIBLE WILL BE PROSECUTED TO THE FULLEST EXTENT OF THE LAW.

THE FACILITY IS OPERATED BY A PRIVATE COMPANY UNDER A CONTRACT WITH THE STATE…AND HOUSES 1250 INMATES.
