Containment Grows on Ute Park Fire

MORE PROGRESS IS BEING MADE IN BATTLING THE UTE PARK FIRE IN COLFAX COUNTY. STATE FORESTRY DIVISION SPOKESWOMAN WENDY MASON SAYS THE FIRE IS NOW 77 PERCENT CONTAINED. AND THE EVACUATION OF THE COMMUNITY OF UTE PARK WAS LIFTED AS OF 10 LAST FRIDAY MORNING.

THE FIRE HAS BURNED JUST UNDER 37-THOUSAND ACRES…OR 57 SQUARE MILES…SINCE IT STARTED ON MAY 31ST. NO HOMES HAVE BURNED, BUT MORE THAN A DOZEN OUTBUILDINGS AT THE PHILMONT SCOUT RANCH WERE DESTROYED THE DAY THE FIRE BROKE OUT AND THE FIRE HAS BURNED MORE THAN 26-THOUSAND ACRES THERE.
