State PED Demands Commitment from APS

THE NEW MEXICO PUBLIC EDUCATION DEPARTMENT WANTS A STRONGER COMMITTMENT FROM THE ALBUQUERQUE PUBLIC SCHOOL DISTRICT TO A PLAN MEANT TO ADDRESS THREE FAILING SCHOOLS. P-E-D SECRETARY DESIGNATE CHRISTOPHER RUSZKOWSKI SAYS THE LATEST LETTER FROM APS SUGGESTS THE DISTRICT CAN OPT OUT OF ITS AGREEMENT FOR ANY REASON. HE SAYS THAT’S UNACCEPTABLE AND APS SUPERINTENDENT RAQUEL REEDY NEEDS TO MAKE THE NEXT MOVE. HE SAYS REEDY HAS TO COMMIT TO THE SUPPORT, THE FUNDING, THE RESOURCES AND THE ACCOUNTABILITY.

RUSZKOWSKI SAYS HE WANTS TO HEAR FROM REEDY BY THIS FRIDAY OR THE STATE WILL IMPLEMENT ITS OWN IMPROVEMENT PLAN. THE THREE ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN QUESTION ARE LOS PADILLAS, WHITTIER AND HAWTHORNE.
